In line with our Ease mission pathway, the EducateMe project is an initiative to register disadvantaged students from low-income and underserved communities in Lagos, Nigeria for their UTME examinations by providing the JAMB/UTME forms.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a Nigerian institution that conducts National entrance exams similar to A-levels. It is a determinant for prospective students to be admitted into tertiary institutions. This exam (UTME) is conducted once a year.
Lack of education increases the likelihood of living in poverty. It is also true that youths with tertiary qualifications have a higher chance of securing a better-paying job and making better-informed decisions that affect their social, economic, and political wellbeing.
In 2021, with the help of Connecting Cities and other donors, we registered 145 students from Bariga and Ijeshatedo communities for their JAMB/UTME examinations.
In 2022, with the partners: Connecting Cities, we have successfully registered 110 students across Ijeshatedo, Bariga, Ajegunle, Mushin and Okobaba communities in Lagos. We hope to award scholarships to the top-performing students in our beneficiary pool.
